Colossians 2:6-7 So
then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your
lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith
as you were
Jesus is our Lord and Savior,
as well as our center! He is the nucleus around which we revolve. Instead of
adding Jesus to our list of priorities, God’s Word reminds us that he alone is
Lord (Exodus 3:1-6; John 20:28; Titus 2:13). Rather than attempting to add to
the truth of Jesus, we must ascertain and accept His gospel and place our faith
and trust in Him with child-like faith, that must be nourished and grown
through obedience and godliness (2 Peter 1:3-11, 3:18). As Jesus continues to
be our central focus and our hearts remain thankful to God for his mercy and
grace, our faith will be strengthened, our thankfulness grown, and He will
transform us to be more like him each day by His Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians
3:18; Galatians 5:22)
The life-altering question
that looms before us is, can we point to a time when we have accepted Christ
Jesus into our hearts and souls as our Lord and Savior and surrendered our
lives to him, heart, mind, body, soul, and spirit? We cannot be married and not
remember our wedding day; it remains a part of who we are, as does the day of
our salvation. There was a day that a preacher or some other officiant asked
us, “Do you take this “man” or “woman” to be your lawfully wedded husband or
wife? That is an experience that most people can recall with great love and
joy. The same applies to our salvation experience, a moment in time most people
have sealed in their memory banks. When someone asks, “Will you take this man
Christ Jesus to be your Lord and Savior?” Your response was either “I do” or “I
won’t.” If you say, “I do,” he will forgive you immediately of all sins, past,
present, or future.
Christ Jesus is much more than
just our Savior; He is the Lord of our lives, and we owe Him a debt that we can
never repay. The beautiful aspect of this is that Jesus does not ask us for
anything physical, His only request is that we surrender our lives to Him and
spread the word of His love, grace, and mercy to this lost, dark, and dying
world. If we continuously live to the person and work of Jesus, the
sovereign Lord will empower us to implement the Christian life.
When we read a letter from
someone we love, we may experience some things in the letter, and in other
parts of the communication, we may not. Some sections of the letter may state a
simple truth. Other portions of the letter may encompass some emotion. When we
read the Bible, we may feel something, and we may not. Feelings are not the
issue of mature spirituality. When we read the Bible, we read communication
from our heavenly Father. We welcome (“receive”) what he wants us to know.
The follower and believer in Christ Jesus grows one day at a time. Through our choices about the Word, the Word assimilates into our lifestyle. As we appropriate the provisions of God by faith, God’s Word takes hold of our soul.
