Hosea 12:6 But you must return to your God; maintain love and justice and wait for your God always.
One
of the most annoying things for any of us to do is to wait. There is a favorite
restaurant chain that many people enjoy dining at, Cracker Barrell. It is like
visiting a museum; walls overflow with antiques from almost every walk of life.
However, anyone who frequents that establishment knows there is always a wait
to be seated. In their infinite wisdom, the company has also placed a gift shop
in the waiting area to keep everyone busy during the wait, and the money they
make on the merchandise sometimes exceeds the fare in the restaurant.
It
is never appealing to wait for anything. Today’s society is what I want, and I
want it now. This day in age we can order anything we desire on our cell
phones, and it will be at our homes almost immediately. Food, clothes, or
things don’t matter; we usually want it right now. On the most popular sales
website ever known to humankind, Amazon, we can order anything we can imagine
and get it the next day. I ordered something from Amazon not too long ago and
got it later that day.
This
verse provides an excellent reminder to wait on God continually. As Christians,
we often try to fix things ourselves. We see what’s happening and find a way to
change it immediately. But the idea of the statement here is that anyone who
waits on God will discover that it is worth the wait. The question before us
today is, are we always waiting on God, or do we try to fix things ourselves?
We should also wait for God’s guidance, help, and deliverance when facing
challenges and troubles.
Jesus
left His closest Disciples with a clear-cut command. He told them to wait in
Jerusalem, which they did. In the upper room, He bestowed the Holy Spirit on
each one of them. God freely gives his gift of the Holy Spirit to all who
accept Christ Jesus as their Lord and Savior and surrender their lives to Him.
