Colossians 1:16-17 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
A common refrain from high school students is, “Why do I
need to know algebra?! I’ll never use this in real life.” I would guess that
most (if not all) parents and teachers have answered this question. The answer
is that school is not just about math, science, or English. It is about
teaching us how to learn, solve problems, and think.
We spend a massive
amount of time waiting for big, romantic moments. We’re looking for that one
panacea that will solve our worries. And we sulk through our days in the
interim, thinking, if not declaring, “What is the point of all of this?”
Everything in life matters. Whatever circumstance or setting we find ourselves
in, we have ample opportunity to choose, and our choices slowly mold our
character.
Mundane life is not
inherently mundane. We make the ordinary dull because of our viewpoint. We
persuaded ourselves that it was not exciting because something had occurred
multiple times before. Because we don’t completely understand, it is useless.
We can benefit from all our experiences, whether we see them as positive. The
only thing that would counteract this value is if we are unwilling to see the
positive aspect of the search. Our decisions, even when threading through a
valley before reaching the mountaintop, will help shape our lives.
God spoke into existence everything that exists. He created
the constellations of stars. Why should we worry about having a job next week?
Why should we worry about our health or other worldly issues? Jesus okays
everything that happens to us, good or bad. When we see a situation going in a
direction we are not pleased with; we must remember that Jesus is in control
and everything that He sends our way is ultimately for our good and His glory.
Jesus places his stamp of approval on anything that comes our way. Our Lord and
Savior has not nor will take his hands off the steering wheel of the universe.
He can solve our problems. Why should we, as followers of Christ, fear an
uncertain, uncontrolled, runaway world? Jesus Christ is sovereign over it all.
God will glorify the Son in the end.
