Ephesians 4:7 But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it.
There are many times in life when
we may receive a gift. As young children, we may have received gifts around
holidays or birthdays. There was always excitement around receiving gifts when
we were younger. But as we get older, that excitement may change, and the gifts
may change. Sometimes, it is the newest toy or gadget. The gifts we receive as
we get older are not anything we possess. It may not be a worldly possession,
but a deed done for us. Some of the best gifts may be someone who mows a lawn,
helps with a project, or something similar.
But in this verse, each Christian
has been given grace. I doubt that any of us would argue that we have received
grace from God. We can all look through our lives and no doubt see the grace of
God at work in various moments and situations. The idea here is that we have an amount of grace given
through Jesus Christ. In other words, because we have accepted Jesus Christ as
Savior, grace has been given to help us live a life for God. We are benefiting
from the grace of God, but are we putting it to good use?
With the grace bestowed on us,
God wants us all to live a life for Him. He wants us to use our lives in a way
that will point others to Him. Best of all, we have the gift of grace to help
us through, it is up to us to put it to good use!
All Children of God have grace
bestowed upon us according to the degree of the gifts of Jesus. This Miracle is
the basis for God's distribution of spiritual gifts through His church: grace,
God's free, unmerited giving. No one deserves or has earned spiritual gifts. We
can see the differing gifts, and this is very exciting.
As we understand this, it will
help us not be offended or put off by someone gifted differently. We must not be
threatened or intimidated by someone else serving in their uniqueness in the
church. That's the way they see it, the way God made them. Also, when we grasp
our uniqueness, it helps us avoid seeing our gifts as superior to someone
else's.
