Bible Verse of The Day Thursday November 29th 2018

Luke 10:40 “But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made.”

Do you find yourself hurrying from one project to another? Do you often find that there is not enough time to complete the entire list of tasks you have, and some must be put on the back burner? There is a danger that you might get so busy in your worldly projects that it will start getting in the way of the time you spend with God, and thus affecting your relationship with our precious Lord and Savior.

In our text today, we find that Martha had gotten distracted by the preparations that had to be made. She simply had her priorities reversed; she was rushing around to get everything ready for the Lord’s visit when she should have been focused on spending time with Jesus. It is true that all the work she was doing had to be done but her busy schedule got in the way of what was most important and that is spending time with the Lord.

Are we doing the same thing that Martha did, allowing our worldly jobs and projects to stand in the way of our precious time with God? The only way to assure that this does not happen is to put Jesus where He belongs in our lives and that is number one.

Imagine an old wagon wheel with one hub and several spokes. Each spoke represents a task or project; one for hobbies, one for work, one for school and so on. What some people do is give Jesus a spoke and spend time with Him each time His spoke comes around.

Where Jesus should be is the hub, everything else we do in life should reflect our relationship with the Lord. Jesus should be at the center of our lives, like the hub at the center of the wagon wheel, not just an occasional spoke that comes by every now and then.

If you find yourself too busy for God, then you should most definitely readjust your life’s priorities. Give God the first time of the day and you will be surprised how much smoother the remainder of the day will go.  There’s a line in an old hymn that says, “keep your eyes upon Jesus and the things of the world will grow strangely dim”.
