Psalm
126:2-5 Our
mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was
said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.” The LORD has
done great things for us, and we are filled with joy. Restore our fortunes,
LORD, like streams in the Negev. Those who sow with tears will reap with songs
of joy.
I have heard many testimonies
of the euphoria and peacefulness known when one finally surrenders and accepts
Christ Jesus as their Lord and Savior. I am sure we all have a story to tell
about that great moment in our lives and it is a time that stands out in our
mind as the greatest time of our lives.
We also always remember and are euphoric as we recall times in our lives
that God has done a great miracle for us or someone we love, the times we are
on the mountain. There are also times that we are in some shadowy and deep
valley when God has allowed a tribulation of some kind in our lives.
During these walks in the
valley, we can be encouraged and reassured by remembering the time God had us
on the mountaintop. By remembering these mountain-top experiences we can know
with certainty that God that was there while we were on the mountain is also
with us in the valley, “the God of the
Day is still God of the Night”.
In today’s text, the Children
of Israel are filled with immense joy because of the great things God has done
for them. Then in verse 4, we see them asking the Lord to restore to them their
fortune, to allow them to once again be on the mountain.
By not forgetting the time we
were on the mountains we can look ahead, not forgetting the faithfulness of
God, and know without any shadow of a doubt that He will always meet our needs.
The more we remember our mountaintop experiences the stronger our praises for
our Lord and Savior will be.
