John 14:2-3 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that
were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for
you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to
be with me that you also may be where I am.
The history channel and other
documentaries show old footage of the German people in large crowds celebrating
victory in the opening episodes of the Second World War. We watch as a prideful
Hitler addresses the crowds with the thoughts that The Germans would have the
final victory. Meanwhile back in Great Britain, the people were living with the
fear of daily bombing from Germany. Although they were determined to gain
victory there must have been a feeling of discouragement. Things turned out
much differently than Hitler had been portraying to the masses in Germany, the
Allies were the ones in the concluding episode to be celebrating the victory.
The long years of fear and
disheartenment that the English people went through would have been altered
greatly if they had been able to see the concluding episode. The followers of
Jesus completely missed the part of the scriptures that differentiate the first
and second coming of Jesus. Consequently, they were devastated when they
watched as Jesus was tried, convicted and crucified.
They stood helplessly and
watched as Jesus drew his last breath on the Cross and believed the dream was
dead. Even though the scriptures foretold of the first and second coming and
Jesus had talked about it many times, they missed what His first coming was all
about.
That He must “give his life as
a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:28). He will be coming back to establish His
Kingdom on Earth, except this time He will come with the final victory over the
sin of this world. If His followers had been able to see this Concluding
Episode they would not have gone through the discouragement that they endured.
As we witness the influence of
what evil stands for today and manipulate people to live their lives according
to these world precepts, we become discouraged in our mission for Christ.
However, if we walk by faith not by sight, look beyond this temporary status
quo and focus on the concluding episode we will have reason to exuberate and
live a life of victory. The hope of the world and the hope we have in Christ
Jesus are very different. Our blessed hope, in Christ Jesus our Lord and
Savior, will keep us on the path laid out for us by Jesus of carrying the
wonderful gospel message to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8).
