Luke
2:11
Today in the town of David a Savior has
been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.
This verse speaks volumes,
first, it tells us that Jesus is a direct descendant of David, and the
everlasting King of the promise of salvation for all that surrender their lives
to Him. This verse tells us also that He is the promised Messiah, the long promised
hope of Israel. We also learn from this short verse of scripture that Christ
Jesus is Lord and ruler of all creation. John
1:14 tells us that Jesus is the Word and that the Word became flesh and
made its dwelling among us. Praise God the Word did not remain allusive to the
world but became flesh and sacrificed Himself so that we all could know
salvation. Salvation is not something that we have to wait for the second
coming of Christ Jesus, it can be gained here and now, today (Luke 19:9).
This glorious,
earth-shattering message was first sent to the Shepard’s of the fields, not to
the rulers and leaders of the Jewish people. As the shepherds were rushing
towards Bethlehem, as they had been told to do, they most likely did not fully
grasp all of the connotations of this message from God. Even with the advantage
of two centuries of hindsight we still do not fully comprehend all that there
is to learn about the coming of the promised Messiah today. The last report we
have of the shepherds is that they were returning back to their flocks
glorifying and praising God (Luke 2:20).
The same avenue is open for us
today, even though we do not have all of the answers that will become clear at
some time in the future, we can follow the examples of the shepherds and spend
our time glorifying and praising God
