Bible Verse of The Day Thursday December 20th 2018

Luke 2:7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

The story of the birth of our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus, born in a manger because there were no rooms available is a story that we all learn not long after we are out of our own cradles. This is one part of the Gospel of Christ Jesus that many that do not recall anything else about the gospel recall throughout their lives. Even though so many do realize that Christmas is the celebration of the Birth of Christ Jesus, there is not much thought given to Jesus during this season. Most folks are concerned in being first in line at the local Walmart when the Black Friday sales begin in earnest, on Thursdays after the Thanksgiving festivities are wrapped up.

John 1:11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.

The Jewish people, who were chosen to reflect the light of the Gospel to the World, rejected the one that all of their Prophets had foretold throughout the many hundreds of years, the one that was to come and set them free from the chains and bonds of sin. Their narrow tunnel vision, that would only allow them to see their current political dilemma of being under the control of Rome, caused them to miss what was clearly before them. Jesus performed many miracles in their presence, He spoke to them as no other had ever before spoken, yet they treated Him like their worst enemy. He was a threat to the self-importance and authoritarianism of the rulers of the Jewish people, so they plotted and finally succeeded in having Him put to death. What they or the despots of the Roman government did not realize was that they were all part of God’s master plan.

Today things have not changed so much, people are still trying to erase His Holy Name from the memory of time. Attempts to drop His name from the word Christmas itself, calling it Xmas and wishing everyone Happy Holidays.

This Christmas season let us all remember that we are celebrating the birth of our King, Christ Jesus, who gave us the greatest gift that can be bestowed on humankind, the gift of Salvation.
