The Beatitudes Part VI of VIII
Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
There must be a deep desire within our hearts to want to follow
Christ Jesus. This heart's desire propels our commitment to keeping our eyes and
life focused on God instead of the world. It is because of our faith in our
Lord and Savior Christ Jesus that we are made pure in God's eyes. Because of
what Jesus did on the Cross of Calvary, our sins have been removed as far as
the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12). God has credited the
righteousness of Jesus to us.
This is a free gift given by God to all that accept Jesus, by
faith, as their Lord and Savior. Before we were saved, we were dead in our
trespasses and sins (Ephesians 2:1; Colossians 2:13) and at enmity with
God. To fully comprehend this, we must understand that every person has a body,
soul, and spirit. Before our salvation, our spirit was dead in our sins; our
souls were polluted by our sinful nature and controlled through our hearts and
minds' motives and worldly desires.
Then God entered into the picture, and through the works of the
Holy Spirit of God, we were changed when we accepted Christ Jesus as our Lord
and Savior. God gave us a new heart; He did not repair the old heart, He took
out the old stone heart and gave us a new heart of flesh, a new heart, and a
new spirit (Ezekiel 36:26). With this new heart and new spirit, we were
made alive to God and His ways. This radical heart transplant allowed us to
open our spiritual eyes and see the light that Christ Jesus is shining in our
lives.
Additionally, we also received the Holy Spirit's indwelling, who
began the spiritual growth process, called sanctification, that transforms us
into children of God, heirs to the Royal Family. This sanctification readies us
for our service to God and makes us pure in the sight of God. When God sees us,
He sees His Son Jesus in us, and His righteousness and purity, because we have
none on our own.
The wording here does not
indicate that we have been made pure, only pure in heart, the new nature of
God. It means that we have been given the freedom from the bonds and chains of
slavery of Satan. Free from the guilt and consequences of sin, which is eternal
separation from God. This is made possible by one selfless act of Love, Grace,
and mercy, that is the substitutionary work of Jesus on the cross of
Calvary.
The more we grow in God's knowledge and grace, the closer we get
to our Lord and Savior. The only way we can ever experience a "Pure
Heart" is by our personal relationship with Christ Jesus, through the Holy
Spirit's indwelling. The only way we will ever grow in God's knowledge is
through an in-depth study of His Holy Word. Do not let Satan fool you into
thinking that God will naturally let you know His will for your life. The only
way that can be accomplished is through Prayer and Bible Study. In turn, this
will build a Godly character within us and make us useful servants of our Lord
and Savior Christ Jesus.
The sweetest words we will ever hear are “well done my good and
faithful servant.”
