Bible Verse of the Day Friday September 25th 2020

The Beatitudes Part V of VIII

Matthew 5:7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

Mercy and God's grace are the bedrock upon which our salvation was established. Because of God's immeasurable love, He sent His only begotten Son to take on the debt we could not afford to pay. Because of God's love and concern for us, His creation, Jesus, the living God stepped out of eternity and took on humanity in the incarnation. He did this to take upon Himself our sins past, present, and future. Therefore, because we have been saved by so great a grace, out of God's love for us, mercy is the seasoning that falls upon all we do. And we do so through Christ Jesus, who strengthens us in and through the power of the Holy Spirit's work of transformation in our hearts and minds.

Showing mercy to others does not give people what they deserve but showing others grace as God has shown us. Without God's mercy and grace, we would all be facing a final judgment too terrible to consider. In God's great and boundless compassion, He did not pour out the punishment we all deserve. Instead, in His unbounded love and grace, He sent His one and only Son to suffer and die on the beams of a cruel rough Cross to atone for our sins. In thoughtfulness and reflection of the infinite and illimitable love and mercy was shown to us each day of our lives, should we not, as Children of God, display mercy and grace to all we come in contact with. This will not only reflect the light of Christ Jesus to the world but will result in us receiving God's abundant blessings, blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

In this passage, the word used for mercy by Jesus goes beyond giving those who repent another chance. It carries the additional meaning of being greatly concerned for their overall wellbeing. And it includes having a desire to treat others with compassion and understanding, as well as having their best interest at heart. It is this trait of mercy that we grow stronger and stronger through the Holy Spirit's work in our hearts and our lives. This trait of mercy defines us as followers of Christ, and it is the lack of mercy that is characteristic of those who do not know Jesus or have turned their hearts away from the Lord. Mercy is the one fruit of the spirit we should most seek to cultivate as believers because it is from a heart grounded in forbearance and compassion through which all other attributes of a godly character grow.

Let us all, as followers and believers in Christ Jesus strive to imitate the mercy and grace shown to us so that we will be able to show mercy to those that God puts in our path. May we always pursue a lifestyle that would be pleasing in our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus's sight and reflect His light to a Dark and dying world.
