John 8:34 Jesus replied, "Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.
Christ Jesus is the truth of
God's Word, and when He says to us, "Very truly I tell you," We
should drop everything we are doing and pay close particular attention to His
message. Our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus left His glory above and came to
earth to set us all free from the chains and bondage of sin. Furthermore, He
came to earth to rescue and liberate us from the catastrophic character of sin
that plagues every human being.
However, many reject the idea of
the truth that we are all sinners (Romans
3:23) and are in dire need of a Savior. The pride of the Children of Israel during
the time Jesus was on the earth would not let them admit that they were in
bondage to anyone. They did not comprehend the truth that sin was the chains
that bound them. Jesus attempted to teach them that if they would but follow
and believe in Him that they would know the truth, and the truth would set them
free (John 8:32). Nevertheless, they flatly rejected the gracious
offer from Christ Jesus because they believed that their ancestry from Abraham
is what had set them free. They would not admit that they needed a savior and
consequently slammed the only doorway that led to real spiritual freedom.
Christ Jesus is the personified
truth of God; sin is the embodiment of an atrocious and malicious slave driver.
The only escape from the bonds and chains of Satan's slavery is our faith in
the love and grace of God through the precious blood of Christ Jesus. It is only the born again, washed in the
blood, followers, and believers in Christ Jesus that are able, through the
power of the indwelling of The Holy Spirit, to know the glory of the freedom
from sin that engulfs this world.
We can know the truth that the
Apostle Paul discovered when he realized his enslavement to sin (Romans 7:24). That truth is that God will deliver us from the
bondage of sin through the saving power of Christ Jesus (Romans 7:25). The bottom line to this truth is that Jesus is
the way, the only way to eternal life (John
14:6).
