1 Peter 4:10-11 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves. they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power forever and ever.
We use our gifts in
grace because we obtained our gifts by grace (Ephesians 4:7). It is not
the desire of God that we become indecisive and neglective about the blessings
He bestows upon us. Some may feel that God has not granted any gifts to them,
but that is incorrect; God gives all people gifts. Our gift may not place us in
the public eye or the ability to sing or play a musical instrument, but God has
given all of us a gift.
All followers and believers in Christ Jesus receive a gift or gifts. These gifts are not something that we have worked for or something that we earn or even deserve. Everything that we have or ever will have or ever will be is because of God’s love, grace, and mercy. There should be no bragging about any gift or blessing God has bestowed upon us. These gifts from God are spiritual gifts given to those who surrender themselves to Christ for the sole purpose of being a servant to God and others. And to reach out to all that do not know Christ as their Lord and Savior.
If one of our family or friends were to give us a gift and we tossed it aside and never opened it, that would be an insult to our friend or family member. When we receive a gift from God and refuse to use it, we are insulting God. God has bestowed upon every one of His children a special gift; there are no exceptions. The only purpose for any gift from God is to serve Him and others. Every gift from God is a conduit that allows the flow of blessing from God to reach those that need it the most. We should make ourselves available to be used by God in our local churches. If we fail to do that, the work God had for us will have to go to another; we will have wasted valuable time that might find someone in need of what we have to give at a particular time.
Some might say, “I know I have a gift, but I don’t know how to use it.” Just speak to the Lord that you are ready to do your best to follow through on your gift. The only thing God expects from us is our best. God has a reservoir of truth for the world that will flow through us if we are willing. The message we have for the world is not our own; it is the truth from God.
Every spiritual gift given us in and through the grace of God is a conduit through which might flow the blessing of God for others. We are to use our gifts for the honor and glory of God through our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus (Revelation 2:19).
The ministry of Christ
Jesus on this earth was that of a servant (Matthew 20:26,28; Mark 10:45).
This day, we must ask ourselves: Are we ready and willing to be a servant to
God, others and the Body of Christ?
