Proverbs 2:6 For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
Natural
or worldly wisdom with all of its supposable truths and understanding of life
can only go so far. It is extremely limited in its imperfect and incomplete
concept of life, now and for eternity. Worldly wisdom can offer nothing that
pertains to life after our natural life is complete.
This
verse from Proverbs tells us of the only source of true wisdom, and that is
from God. The Lord gives us knowledge and understanding; worldly truth-seekers
and theorists provide us with commentary and opinion. The only superior true
wisdom that will outlast this present earth we call home is Godly wisdom. If we
truly desire after the wisdom of God, all we have to do is ask for it, and we
will receive it (James 1:5).
The
prophets of old spoke of the coming of the promised Messiah as a newborn baby,
His earthly ministry, the shame, pain, and anguish He would encounter at His
death. The prophets sent by God also told of His resurrection, ascension, and
second coming to earth.
We
must live in this fallen, lost, dark, and dying world, so we must be equipped
with what most refer to as “common sense.” That is a basic understanding of
life during our human existence. The problem arises when one puts more priority
on this life than life eternal. When people seek after things that will only
benefit us here in this life, worldly philosophy might seem, on the surface, to
be sufficient. However, this life is just a flicker in the massive unending
realm of eternity; since this is the case, even using worldly thinking, it
would make more sense to focus on the eternal instead of the short flicker of
life’s light here in this life. The resolution to this dilemma has been given
to us from Christ Jesus, on the Cross of Calvary.
If
we surrender our lives to Christ Jesus, live for Him and carry out the mission
He has called on us to do (Acts
1:8), it will assure our eternal life. Some believe
that there are specific rules and regulations we must abide by to attain
eternal life. However, the only requirement is to put our faith and trust in
Christ Jesus and accept His blood sacrifice on the Cross, on our behalf. The
power of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit will lead, guide, and direct our
every step. What we must do is give Christ Jesus, through His Holy Spirit,
total control of our lives and not attempt to override God’s will for our life.
Jessica King wrote a gospel song
entitled “Keep Me in your Will,” the thesis of the piece is this: “Lord, keep
me in your will, so I don’t get in your way.”
