Psalm 23:6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
There is plentiful
evidence in the Bible of God's goodness and the great love surrounding all that
place their trust and faith in Him. Just look at the stories of the Children of
God in the Old and New Testament. There can be no question that even though
they went through some terrible, sometimes even horrific tribulations, there
was never a milli-second that God's love was absent. Just go to any testimony
meeting and listen to the stories of God's children today, and you will see
God's Love as present today as it has always been.
Just look at your own life and ask yourself this question: Has there ever been a time that God's love has not been present in my own life? The only answer to that question can be that there has never been a time that God's love has been out of my reach.
The writer of this Psalm, David, would become the future King of the Nation of Israel. David's life story is not one of constant easiness and comfort; he was persecuted, hunted down like one hunting a wild animal, and at one point betrayed by his own son who tried to usurp the throne of Israel from his father. However, David did not focus on his physical situations and conditions; he set his eyes on God's love and goodness to lead and comfort him in a world of pain and suffering.
The fact that God's goodness and love, which is also the grace of God, following us all through our lives, is as unquestionable and incontestable as it is reassuring and encouraging. His goodness will supply our every need in life, and His love or grace will forgive our every sin. God's goodness and love will surround us every day, even the days when our seas become rough and our paths become rocky and hard to walk on.
We were once in bondage to the slavery of sin and Satan, then Christ Jesus gave His life on the Cross, shedding His innocent and sinless blood to atone for our sins, and released us from the bonds and chains of sin. We were no longer slaves to sin but children of God and co-airs with Christ Jesus in the kingdom of God for eternity (John 8:35; Romans 8:17).
Because of the great goodness, love, and grace of God, we will not only have His protection in this life, but we will be spending all of time and eternity in the House of the Lord.
