John 5:39-40 You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life.
From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible testifies concerning our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus. He is the source of all its light and beauty; all the doctrine draws its essence from the person of the one true Messiah, the Savior of the world, Christ Jesus. An adverse choice was the foundation of Christ Jesus's rejection as the true promised Messiah by the Jewish people. They refused to accept that all the prophet's writings were leading up to the birth, earthly ministry, the Cross of Calvary, the three days in the tomb, the resurrection, and ascension back to heaven and return of Christ Jesus. Like so many today, they refuse to see Christ Jesus in the Bible for who He was, God in the flesh. It was not that the scriptures were vague or unclear; the problem is a hardening of hearts.
Every promise in the Bible stems from His love, His grace, and His purity. Many people read the Bible regularly that somehow have forgotten that foundational truth. Satan is overjoyed when people read the Bible and do not see Jesus in its pages. Some people go into the treasure of the Bible's pages, intent on justifying some preconceived notion that has followed them from generation to generation. Some study its pages for the sake of human literature, interested in the antiquity of its content. Some are more interested in allowing its history to enlighten, its philosophy to lead and guide, and its poetry to captivate and mesmerize our being's human element.
In skimming the surface of the Bible, without an open mind and surrendered heart, Satan will darken and veil our eyes and minds to the truth that the Bible, in its entirety, is about Christ Jesus. There is a scarlet ribbon woven throughout its pages that leads straight to the Cross of Calvary and ultimately to the empty tomb, which could not hold our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus.
The function of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit the only guiding force that will lead, guide and direct us to the absolute and unquestionable truth that coming to Jesus is the only path to Life eternal (John 14:6). Without applying it to our lives, learning God's Word is a significant flaw of too many Christians, not only today but for many generations back. Some people pride themselves on their knowledge of the Bible, without it causing any effect whatsoever on their lives. Too many people believe that the study of the scriptures is an end in and of itself. The purpose of God's Holy Word is to lead us into a closer and more personal relationship with Christ Jesus so that we can share the truth of the gospel with those around us, to be His witnesses "to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8).
It all boils down to this one simple question: have we come to Christ Jesus with our entire being, minds, bodies, souls, and spirits, or have we come to the fountain of eternal life, only to observe its magnificence, majesty, and grandeur?
