Romans 15:4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.
I lived on a
farm some years ago with an old farmhouse that was built in 1864. I was always
looking for hidden treasures in different places in the house. I was sure that
someone had left behind some hidden wealth in the walls or the stairs of that
old structure. I recall a story once of an older man that lived in a rundown
shack on the outskirts of a small town. He could be seen any day picking up
drink cans and anything else he could fit in his shopping cart. When he passed
away, they found several hundred thousand dollars hidden in the walls of that
old shack. This man paid no attention to his hidden wealth and lived his life
as a pauper.
When you ignore certain sections of God’s word that is what you are doing, you are paying no attention to the hidden wealth in the Bible. There are people that don’t believe that it is important to study all parts of the Bible. God has made it very clear that “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16-17). This means all scripture, not just a part of it.
In the History of the Children of Israel, you can find king after king turning to evil and away from God. The question on a lot of minds is, what does this have to do with me? God answers this question in the first letter to the church at Corinth (1 Corinthians 10:6). Every word in the Bible was placed there by the hand of God and He had a purpose for every word. In the sections of the Bible, you pay no attention to can be found hidden wealth beyond human comprehension (Proverbs 30:5).
There is not one Christian that does not need a daily reinforcement of the Word of God. Our lives need a constant underpinning that can only come from God’s Word. If we will adhere to a devoted life of prayer and Bible study, we will be prepared for any storm that comes our way. The Old and New Testaments were pinned for the followers and believers in Christ Jesus over all ages, this includes our day in age. The truly surrendered Christian will not permit any space to gather between the truth of the Bible and his or her life. There is no Book like it, nor has there ever been or will ever be. It has a life-changing power that can soften the hardest of hearts and literally redirect one’s eternal destiny. There is no book or power on this earth or will there ever be that can make that claim. By leaving out parts of God’s Holy Word, you will leave holes in your shield that will allow Satan’s fiery darts to find a way to your heart and soul.
