Hosea 1:7 Yet I will show love to Judah; and I will save them—not by bow, sword or battle, or by horses and horsemen, but I, the Lord their God, will save them.”
God used Hosea as a human picture
of the incredible love of the Lord towards His people. Hosea's marriage to his
unfaithful wife Gomer paints not only a precious portrait of God's
never-failing loving-kindness towards His people but also portrays the
unalterable justice of a holy and righteous God. The marriage to Gomer, Hosea's
wife, who spent their marriage in an adulterous affair, not just portrays a
cherished illustration of the love God has for His people, but also depicts the
unalterable equity of a heavenly and exemplary God. He will not look upon sin
and requires a righteous judgment of all people of the world.
From their forty years in the
wilderness when they grumbled against the Lord and objected to His assertion,
to their scatterings in both Assyria and their 70-year-long bondage in Babylon,
the split country of Israel and Judah had, to a more prominent or lesser
degree, disrespected their God, cursed His sacred name, broken His orders,
desired different divine beings and played the two-faced spouse all through
their arid history. The union of virtuous Hosea to his untrue wife is a
remarkable exemplification of the apostasy of the Children of Israel and the
faithfulness of God towards them.
It exquisitely analogizes Hosea's
heavenly love and unwavering devotion - with his wife's seditious, ungodly
adultery. Just as Hosea did not abandon his repulsively corrupt wife - even so,
God never did leave His disgracefully sinful people.
This Biblical example is a model
for our erudition and for our function as Church-age believers. We need to
scrutinize ourselves to discover if we are keeping the faith or if our burning
ears and licentious lifestyles are being seduced into the factions of heresy
and spiritual adultery. We need to scrutinize where our allegiances lie and
what motivates our activities and mindsets. We also need to make sure that we
have not turned away from our creator, sustainer, and our savior.
Let us all as God's Children look
deep into our hearts and souls at the wondrous love and amazing grace of our
Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus. If we might discover that there is any indulging
of acts that would misrepresent in any form or fashion, our loving God let us
turn away post-haste. Let us turn away from any and all enticements of Satan
and his evil worldly ways and surrender ourselves to God's will for our lives.
There are untold numbers of people in the world today that are in dire need of
the saving grace that only comes from Christ Jesus. If we as children of God
refuse to be the voice that speaks for Christ Jesus and His gospel, the blood
of the lost person that God might send our way could very well be on our
hands.
