Matthew 28:19-20 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
The largest and most powerful corporations the world has
ever known rise and fall on one thing, leadership. In every aspect of life, the
right leadership is so very crucial, in our marriages, education, careers and our
ministries. Each of these divisions in life requires the right policies in
place with strict discipline along with inventiveness and creativity.
Jesus’ goal on this earth was not only to die for our sins
because if that were the case he would have gone straight from his baptism in
the Jordan River to the Cross of Calvary. He spent a three and one half year
mission on earth planting seeds of leadership among the people that would carry
the torch after he had died on the cross, rose from the dead and ascended into
heaven. These men and women were going to be the ones that carried the message
of the gospel to the ends of the earth. The principles that Jesus passed along
to His disciples made it possible for them to be successful and effective in
spreading the gospel and establishing His church on the earth after He had taken
His place at the right hand of God.
Jesus said in our text today “make disciples of all
nations; teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” He wants
you and I to use the gifts and talents that He has bestowed on us to continue
to spread the gospel throughout the world. He wants us to continue carrying the
torch and to pass it along to the next generation. We have a responsibility to
the generations after us to train and teach them so that they may be able to
carry the torch and pass it along to their children and beyond.
Just
as Jesus continued His mission here on earth, we are left here one second after
we are saved to carry out His great Commission found in the verse of today, Matthew
28:19-20. So many times, we hear those say, “I am not sure what God is calling
me to do.” We are all called to do the same thing and that is to witness for
Jesus and to carry His gospel to all people of the earth. How we carry that out
is dependent on what gifts and talents He gives us. All we have to do is
surrender ourselves to God and make ourselves available to Him, He will do the
rest. God is looking for our availability not our ability.
