Psalm 119:30 I have chosen the way of faithfulness; I have set my heart on your laws.
The second part of this verse explains the first part. The Psalmist can choose the way of faithfulness because he has set his heart on God's Word. Consequently, he is in a right relationship with God, a daily walk in the light, that is God.
We cannot travel down both highways, faithfulness, and unfaithfulness; simultaneously, we must choose one or the other; there is no neutrality between the two. There is only a fence that separates them, one side is Satan's path, and the other, the path that leads to God, the fence riders belong to Satan.
The most miserable life one can know is on the fence between God and Satan, faithfulness, and unfaithfulness. The life on God's side has unbounding joy and contentment that can only be known through a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus. Satan fools the ones solidly on his path into thinking that they have found happiness. The ones on the fence know better and cannot fully realize the lie from Satan, while at the same time cannot understand the complete joy that comes only from total surrender to Christ Jesus, thus a miserable existence.
Not one person that has ever chosen to serve the Lord, decided to put their faith and trust in Christ Jesus for their eternal life has ever done that without choosing Christ Jesus as being their master as well. When Moses faced the choice between the worldly pleasures of the Royalty of Egypt and God and the afflictions of his people, he chose the latter (Hebrews 11:25). In today's verse of the day (Psalm 119:30), David has made a choice, the way of faithfulness, by setting his heart on the Word of God.
We do not, by chance, move into a right relationship with God; it is something we have to choose to do. We also have to continue to select it daily, or we will become more susceptible to the fiery darts that Satan will be firing at us every second of every minute, of every hour, of every day of our lives. Those that have a heart's desire to choose faithfulness to God over the temporary pleasures of sin will first lay out a map, like a mariner that wants to sail across the vastness of the ocean. That map is the Holy Word of God. This verse shows a clear and distinct connection between choosing a life of Faithfulness to Christ Jesus and a daily, well-organized, disciplined study of God's Word and a consecrated prayer life.
