Bible Verse of the Day Friday July 30th 2021

Mark 7:21-22 For it is from within, out of a person’s heart that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance, and folly.

This verse contains a 13 point list that discloses the different forms of evil that reside inside the human heart. There need not be an extensive search to locate the source of these and many other sins. All that is required is to look inward at our own hearts. Charles Spurgeon once said: “The source from which these rivers of pollution proceed is the natural heart of humans.” Sin is not a splash of mud upon one’s exterior; it is filth generated within oneself.” Every sin that humans commit starts with a choice made from deep within one’s heart. The context of the heart mentioned in this verse of scripture has nothing to do with emotion but one’s predisposition to life, or in other words, what one believes. When we stop to consider our hearts and the pride of life that so easily entangles us, we can do nothing but realize how helpless we are outside of the love and mercy of Almighty God.

Our forgiveness, readily available from Christ Jesus is due to His substitutionary work on the Cross of Calvary. Along with this comes the “washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit” (Titus 3:5). Thus, when we are baptized into Christ Jesus, we will be raised to walk in a newness of life; the problem of carnality cannot be solved with anything short of a “new creation in Christ Jesus” (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Since we are all sinners, born that way, our natural hearts are filled with evil and wickedness (Psalm 5:9). Jesus re-emphasized this as recorded in Matthew 15:18-19.  According to the Holy Word of God, sin is not something that comes from the outside; it is not similar to some contamination or disease that attacks our physical bodies. Our difficulties and struggles in life come from within, not from some outside source. Unfortunately, some people tend to blame their current settings or situations for their sinful behavior.

In contrast, others want to point to some genetic code for their wrongful insolences and arrogance. The Bible is crystal clear; we are not fatalities that are in dire need of pity or empathy; we are indeed all sinners who need a Savior. If we are not aware that our sinful behavior and troubles come from the inside, we will always tend to blame other people. Blaming others for our problems will cause a severe bitterness to attach itself to us because our problems will follow us no matter where we go. When we do acknowledge that the sin from within us is our problem, then and only then will we bring it all before God and receive the healing that we so urgently need.
