Habakkuk 2:3 For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it lingers, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.
Patience is not unresponsiveness or apathy; patients express the notion of an enormously strong pillar enduring and surviving all assaults. Almighty God is the only spring from where we can draw patience. Moses endured the forty years in the wilderness, not because of anything he was or anything he did, but because his faith and trust was in God and God alone. So likewise, one living a Christ-centered life is not zealous or committed to a cause or any specific matter; they will be devoted and committed to God Himself. When we surrender our lives to our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus and commit to spending our lives spreading the gospel to the ends of the earth, there will be an expansiveness and stimulant to our lives because everything is empowered and invigorated by God.
Every aspect of our lives and our ministry centers around God’s time, not ours. There will be times that we ask ourselves why God is waiting to enlarge our ministries, either spiritually or physically. These questions are a natural part of human curiosity; however, everything we have a small part in is in God’s time because only He can see the outcome of tomorrow and all the days to come. Millions of people have said that if only I could go back and know what I know now. Suppose God did allow that our human nature would most certainly take over, and we would leave God out of the solution. Only God can see the future, and He does not share that with humanity in any circumstances. If that were the case, then we would not need faith in God and in the fact that He knows our every thought and action. His way will always prevail, and more importantly, His way will always place the honor and glory where it belongs, in God and God alone.
“Though it lingers, wait for it” will be an indication that we do have our faith and trust placed in Christ Jesus and not in anything we could do or achieve (Psalm 20:7; Proverbs 3:5; Daniel 6:23). We must be willing to reach out farther than we can see or even imagine. If we only have what we can see or imagine, we have nothing compared to what faith and trust in the Lord can bring us.
To end this commentary, I will use the Word of God as recorded by the Apostle Paul in his Letter to the Church at Rome. “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13).
