1 Thessalonians 5:11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
We as believers have the promise of eternal life with our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus that we will be with Him through eternity (John 3:16). That in itself is encouraging beyond any human conception, then add to the mix that our eternal life does not begin at our deaths, it begins at the heartbeat of our salvation. Furthermore, the encouragement swells to a degree beyond imagination. This great news is heartwarming because we know that there will never be a portion of a second that we will take a step without our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus, holding our hand (Deuteronomy 31:6; Hebrews 13:5).
When we think that the encouragement through Christ Jesus could never become any sweeter, we realize that God loves us so much He wants us to work with Him in carrying His gospel to all the earth, even though we are not deserving of this ministry (Acts 1:8). Then our minds drift to the Hill of Calvary, where our Savior made the greatest sacrifice the world ever witnessed, to pay a debt that He did not owe for us that we could never pay. He did this that we might know salvation from sin and the clutches of Satan, that we could have eternal life and walk with Him daily in this life (John 15:13). This great news is just a small degree of the encouraging information from God’s Holy Word that we have to hearten one another.
If every follower of Christ Jesus put the needs of others above their own, the natural result would be to encourage others through the Love of Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 1:9a says: He has saved us and called us to a holy life, not because of anything we have done but because of his purpose and grace. If I have no desire to serve others and am only concerned about my needs and wants, I will have to question whether or not Christ Jesus lives in my heart. A saved heart is one that serving others is not even in question. The Apostle John taught us that helping others shows that we are truly saved (1 John 3:14).
Let us take an example from The Apostle Paul here in his letter to the Thessalonian Church, as He is encouraging them to continue encouraging each other (1 Thessalonians 5:11).
