Romans 10:9-10 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
We do not gain God's righteousness (our salvation) by works. Which include but are not limited to baptism, being a good person, helping other people, giving to the disadvantaged, and on and on. Instead, we gain it by declaring and believing in the person and work of Christ Jesus. Declaring has the idea of agreeing. So, when we claim "Jesus is Lord," we concur with what God said about Jesus and with what Jesus said about Himself. It means we acknowledge that Jesus is God, that He is the one true promised Messiah, and that His sacrifice at Calvary is the only way to salvation for humankind.
With all your heart, believe that God raised him from the dead points to a difference between a heart and head salvation. The Resurrection of Jesus is the distinguishing moment in the hope we have for eternal life. The Jews did not want to accept this at the time because it would have proved that they were wrong in teaching that Jesus was not the promised Messiah. Jesus was victorious over Satan, sin, and death; the grave could not hold Him. His finished work on the Cross paid the penalty for our sins, and the Resurrection paved the road to our eternal life. When you believe this with all your heart, you will be at the point where you turn your back on everything this world has to offer and focus your entire life and "heart" on serving Jesus. You will forget about your plans and priorities and focus your life on the will of Christ Jesus for your life. It is an exciting, exhilarating ride, and it is sad that so few ever get to experience and enjoy it (Matthew 7:14).
Mere academic harmony with the facts of the Cross and the Resurrection is not sufficient. You must believe with your heart; Believe what? Believe that the only way a person will ever see the Kingdom of Heaven is through Christ Jesus (John 14:6). Believe that we have nothing to offer God, believe there is nothing we can do that will reserve a spot for us in God's Heaven. Believe that Jesus was the True Promised Messiah, and without surrendering our lives to Him fully, ultimately, and 100%, we will spend eternity separated from the Love of God in an awful place called Hell.
When Jesus was here among us, He had a human body. He had feet to take Him where he went and a mouth to speak to those around Him. Today He reigns in the form of His Holy Spirit that resides in the heart and soul of His followers. As the Church, we as his followers are the body of Christ; we should use our feet to take Him where He pleases and a mouth to speak the words He wants us to say. The only way the lost of this world will ever know about the Saving Grace of our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus is if we, His followers, use our feet to go out to preach the gospel and use our mouths to tell the world the Jesus is the only way to life eternal.
