Hebrews 12:14 Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.
The Holy Word of God positions the accountability of living in a
harmonious state with our family and others squarely upon our shoulders. If we
find a splintered relationship somewhere among those close to us, we must ask
ourselves this question: have I gone above and beyond to reside in peace with
those around me? Going to someone and admitting that we are at fault and asking
for their forgiveness can sometimes be uneasy. There are situations in this
life that we might find to be somewhat uncomfortable. However, God will use our
unpleasantness and awkwardness to show us where we have drifted off the narrow
path leading to a close personal relationship with our Lord and Savior Christ
Jesus.
Many places in God’s Word reveal the importance of seeking peace between
ourselves and those around us, especially other Christian Brothers and Sisters
(Romans 12:18; 2 Corinthians 13:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:13). We will also find
that our ability to get along with others around us is directly linked to our
spiritual maturity (James 3:17; Galatians 5:22).
Our communal love and respect among our Christian brothers and sisters in
Christ Jesus serves to build up the Body of Christ, but will also be an example
to the world around us that we are genuinely followers and believers in our
Lord and Savior Christ Jesus. Which will lead to the highest calling of any
born again, washed in the blood follower and believer of Christ Jesus, leading
someone to the Lord.
This verse of scripture teaches us we should strive for holiness before
God and that without that, one will not see the Lord. The words “holy” and
“righteous” have taken a beating down through the ages. Some throw those words
around when they want to flaunt their legalistic self- significance. The term
“holy” means set apart for God, which no human can do; only God can do that.
The word “righteous” indicates a right standing before God. Only God can make
us holy, and our standing with God has a direct link to how much of ourselves
we want to surrender to our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus. Keeping in mind that
there are only two levels of surrender, it is an all-or-nothing proposition;
partial surrender is a contradiction of terms; it does not exist in God’s eyes.
If we find that our relationship with God does not seem as close as it
once was, there might be some issues with others that we need to face and
reconcile.
