Bible Verse of the Day Saturday October 16th 2021

Philippians 3:8-9 What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ —the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.

It is difficult to avoid being absorbed with the concerns and attention of the world that we live in every day. We all must make a living to provide for our families and ourselves. However, we must never forget that we are:

  • Members of the family of God.
  • His children.
  • Joint-heirs with Christ Jesus in His royal family.

The fact that we are followers and believers in Christ Jesus, His disciples, must remain first and foremost in our minds, hearts, and souls. Our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus, is number one, always and forever, and we must keep our eyes focused on Him. We should always stay focused on our eternal life and remember that we are only here temporarily and for a limited amount of time. Furthermore, our lives here in this world cannot come close to comparing to the eternity we will spend in heaven, with Christ Jesus.

Paul was writing to the Christians in Philippi about and what he is teaching us in the here and now. There is absolutely nothing that we can gain in a material sense that will benefit us in our life in the hereafter, with Christ Jesus. Not any worldly titles we might obtain for ourselves, not any amount of money or any material belongings, not any fame or fortune. The only thing that will benefit us in eternity is our knowledge of Christ Jesus and how we apply that knowledge in our lives here, through our love for God. Thus, we should make time in our busy daily schedules to meditate on what Christ Jesus has called us to do with the talents and time He has bestowed on us. Moreover, always remembering that as believers and followers in Christ Jesus, we will all stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ and give an account of what we did with our lives here in this world (2 Corinthians 5:10).

At the Judgment Seat of Christ, we will all stand before our Lord and Savior to answer for what we did in this life, good or bad. It is then that our hearts and souls will fully and completely understand and comprehend that anything we did in this life that was not out of our love for Christ and others was worthless, insignificant, and to use the word that Paul used, “garbage.” There is no reward in this life that can even come close to comparing to the transcendence and wholeness of Knowing Christ Jesus as our Lord and Savior. At the Judgment Seat of Christ, we will learn that anything that we did that was not to help others and for the honor and glory of Christ Jesus was a complete and utter waste of our valuable time (Isaiah 55:6; John 9:4).

Our time here in this world is short, and we, as believers and followers of Christ Jesus, must endeavor to become one with Jesus, seeking after His will for our lives and not our plans and schemes. Furthermore, we should work tirelessly and diligently for His sake as we follow the leading guiding and direction of the Holy Spirit in our daily walk with the Lord. No matter what we do in this life, it should be out of love, love for others, love for Jesus, love for God’s Holy Word, and love for those that do not know Jesus as their Lord and Savior (Matthew 22:36-40).
