Psalm 5:11 But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you.
All that place their faith and trust in the promises of God's Holy Word, when all human hopes around are failings, will find joy beyond human explanation. This joy is based not on any situations that we face, whether good or bad. God has reserved it for only those inclined to take refuge in our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus. The joy that we can experience in the Lord comes to our strength, and all that do rest in Christ Jesus and take refuge in Him will undoubtedly have an abundance of joy. We do not find joy in our strength but the might and power of God, His Word, and the indwelling of His Holy Spirit.
Abraham had faith in God, and it was counted to him as righteousness, much like Abraham our faith and trust in our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus will save us (Romans 10:9). The Psalms is bursting with stories concerning those that once they take refuge in God have found great joy and contentment in their lives. Joy is the freedom and benefit of the follower and believer in Christ Jesus. Where the worldly person may find emptiness, the Godly person will know a fullness beyond comparison.
Life is not always going to work out like we may have envisioned it; however, when we rest in Christ Jesus, we can choose to be joyful even when our seas get rough. One certain way of doing this is by prayer and Bible study and reminding ourselves just how good God is and how He has always taken care of us in the past, and He will take care of us in the future. Think about the times that He walked beside us when we found ourselves in some difficulty.
C. S. Lewis wrote: "The moment you wake up each morning, all your wishes and hopes for the day rush at you like wild animals. And the first job each morning consists in shoving it all back; in listening to that other voice, taking that other point of view, letting that other, larger, stronger, quieter life come flowing in." Those whose faith and trust are in Jesus will find joyful expectancy and hope.
Worry and fear are the heaviest burdens that we can carry. Have you ever noticed your dog when they sit by you and silently beg for food? As they sit there, they know that at some point, their master will give them food. Therefore, their every thought focuses on the food they know is coming from their master. This focus is how we should approach Christ Jesus, knowing that He has never failed us before, and He will always and forever provide for our every need.
