2 Corinthians 2:14-15 But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ's triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.
Our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus won the victory on the Cross of Calvary that we, as His children, can share in. We can experience this victory every day of our lives by following God's will for our lives instead of our plans and schemes. As Christians, we are supposed to spread the Gospel to the ends of the earth. It is not our answerability or accountability whether the message is received or refused. We are a "pleasing aroma" to God whether the announcement of the Gospel is accepted or rejected. Some people will take it personally if someone slams the door in our face, rejecting the message we have for them. However, the message is not ours; it is the message of our Lord and Savior.
There
are three main points of evil that combats our triumphal procession with our
Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus; these are the world, the flesh, and Satan. The
primary view of the people of the world or those with worldly ways are the
"lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye and the pride of life," and
these things are not of God and certainly not pleasing in the sight of our Lord
and Savior Christ Jesus (1 John 2:15-16). These evil attributes will result in
a rebellion against God; the Apostle Peter and the other Apostles point out
that we are to obey God, not human beings (Acts 5:29).
Our
flesh spoken of here is our fleshly nature, our fallen, corrupt character, the
unredeemed biological urges that can grip and take control of our lives when
left unchecked. God never meant these impulses and cravings to have total
control of our lives. In some cases, they are suitable for us. For example, the
urge of hunger needs to be followed for our bodies to maintain life. However,
this urge unchecked by God can lead to overeating or eating junk food that will
tear down our bodies. In its carnal state, our flesh will always rebel against
the Law of God because Satan will lead our worldly or carnal self to believe
the lie that we can depend on ourselves for our daily bread.
Satan,
who has been in rebellion against God even before God created the world, wants
to lead as many as he can in this insurrection that will ultimately lead him
and all of that follow him to the "Lake of Fire" that is eternal
separation from God (Revelation 20:10).
There will be a fight or a daily battle that all children of God will have to face every day of our lives. It sometimes seems like we might be losing the war, but even though we might lose a battle or two, Christ Jesus will win the war. Furthermore, as long as we put our faith and trust in Him and the victory that He won for us on the Cross of Calvary, we will share in the reward of the victory. We will spend an eternity in worship and praise of the one that has already won the victory for us, our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus.
