Psalm 33:18 But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love.
When Abraham and Sarah could not have a child, Sarah sent her handmaiden to Abraham to conceive a child in her place. However, after the child was born, Sarah began to mistreat Hagar, her handmaiden. The young servant girl wanted to escape the ill-treatment of her mistress, but she had no idea where she was going; she took her son Ishmael and fled into the wilderness. She suddenly realized that the desert was a forsaken and solitary place and that she and her baby boy would soon die of starvation.
One day as she stood by a spring an Angel of God spoke to her and assured her that God knew that she was in such dire straits and that His eyes were with her. This knowledge that God was watching over her most certainly gave her hope and great contentment. Her response to the messenger of the Lord is recorded in Genesis 16:13. “She gave this name to the LORD who spoke to her: You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.”
We can have this same assurance that God's eyes are always with us. We can have faith and know beyond a shadow of any doubt that nothing that happens to us takes God by surprise. Our God is omnipotent, and He holds power to resolve any dilemma we find ourselves in regardless of the severity of the situation. We will never see a time that we are not in the sight of God or forgotten by Him. If you find yourself today in some distressing condition, maybe an illness or ministering to someone that needs constant care. It might be that you are grief-stricken because of the recent loss of a loved one. You could be going through a deep depression or discouraged by something in your life that is not working out how you hoped it would be.
We could be jumping from the frying pan into the fire if we try to change the circumstances that God has placed us in. Instead, we should blossom where God plants us. It is not a change of location that we need; it is a change of heart. Our flesh will always want to flee from tribulation; however, God desires to reveal and exhibit His power in the exact place that we have known our utmost disappointment and sorrow.
No matter what valley we may be walking in today, we can go on with the assured knowledge and faith that God is always with us, and He will never leave or forsake us. (Hebrews 13:5; Deuteronomy 31:6). Just like Hagar, who was alone and hungry with a tiny baby in the wilderness so many years ago, we can always know that God's eyes are always watching over us.
