Psalm 90:12 Teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
When God has us number our days, it does not mean keeping track of our time in this life. He means to invest our time according to His will, not our plans and schemes. If we reach the point in our walk with God that a sense of the importance of sharing the gospel starts to diminish, we are wasting our time. If we do not morn for that lost time, we will find it challenging to get our spiritual calendar back on track. God has plans for each of His followers; He has a charted course for every one of His churches. He knows how much time this mission is going to take, which is something that we do not know, and that is why it is so essential to make the best of the time we have here, to count our days. Humanity today is more concerned and focused on counting the stars in Heaven than counting our days.
Except for extreme medical reasons, none of us know exactly how many days we have left in this life; however, we see that they come in quicker frequency as time passes. There is a certainty that our time on this earth will run out one day. God considers this end, but He has wisely hidden that from us, yet He makes available to us the wisdom to know how to use the time we have left for His will, His honor, and glory. There is a correlation between learning how to count our days and acquiring the wisdom to do that. It is an eternal cycle by learning to count our days to make every day count for Christ Jesus, leading to Godly wisdom. The wisdom then makes the path clear so that we might spiritually mature in counting our days.
If all of us knew the exact time we would be going home to be with the Lord; it would most certainly influence the organization of our time. Therefore, our prayer should be that God would grant us the wisdom to live our lives in such a manner as we did know when we were going home to be with Him.
