Christmas Advent (Advent of Hope)
Isaiah
9:2 The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living
in the land of deep darkness, a light has dawned.
The
northern tribes of Israel were the first to suffer from the invasion of the Assyrians,
So in His great love and mercy, God allowed them to be the first to see the
light of the Messiah.
Matthew 4:13-16 Leaving Nazareth, he went and lived
in Capernaum, which was by the lake in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali to
fulfill what was said through the prophet Isaiah: “Land of Zebulun and
land of Naphtali, the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the
Gentiles—the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those
living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned
This verse of scripture in Matthew (Matthew 4:13-16) quotes the passage (Isaiah 9:2) as
clearly fulfilled in His earthly ministry in the Land of Galilee. Since the
majority of Jesus’ ministry took place in this northern area of Israel, around
the Sea of Galilee, God certainly did have a special blessing for this
once lightly esteemed land.
Isaiah
9:6-7 For to us a child is
born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his
shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince
of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace, there will be no
end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing
and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and
forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish
this.
This 1st Christmas Advent
in 2021 we await, with the HOPE we have in Christ Jesus. The hope of another coming
of our Lord and Savior. The time that He will come back to this earth and take
His children home to be with Him for eternity.
Sometimes it is problematic to see hope in certain situations
we might find ourselves in. However, the Word of God teaches us that true hope
is unseen. If we can remain hopeful in our Salvation, which is also unseen, we
can live in the Godly hope of the return of our Lord and Savior to this earth. The
Angels told the Apostles at Jesus’ ascension back to heaven that He was in fact
coming back just as they had seen Him ascend to heaven (Acts 1:7-11).
Those that are saved need no worldly evidence of our
salvation, it is unseen as well. However, we know we are saved, and we know
that our Lord and Savior is coming back someday to take us home.
Romans 8:24 For in this hope we were saved. But
hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have?
Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is confidence in
what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
God’s Holy Word says that true
hope is unseen. Therefore, if we can remain hopeful for our salvation, we can
remain hopeful that Christ Jesus is coming back one glorious day to take His
follower and believers home.
