Bible Verse of the Day Wednesday November 17th 2021

Isaiah 6:8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!"

It seems a bit perplexing that God would ask these questions, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" Nothing in Heaven and on earth escapes God's knowledge, so why would He seek to question who will follow His calling. The response to that query is simple, God wants to reach all people of the World, and He wants to do it through willing people. It is not that God has to wonder who these willing souls are; God is waiting for those that are surrendered to Him to come forward and say, "Here am I, Send me!"

There are four stages of human reaction to God's call. First, there is the call from God; then, there is the objection to being called. We saw in Moses, who came up with excuse after excuse why he could not answer God's call. Then comes the reassurance from God that He will supply all that is needed for us to carry out what He has called us to do. For example, when God called Jeremiah, he believed he was just too young and did not know how to speak. God assured the young Prophet that he need not fear anything because God would be with him (Jeremiah 1:5-8). Lastly, there is the sign from God that places God's signature on the contract. This sign does not have to be some lightning bolt streaking out of the eastern sky. It is often a gentle whisper from the Holy Spirit that we must be tuned in to receive (1 Kings 19:11-12).

Our calling from God is not always a call to a mission field on the other side of the World; God calls us in many diverse manners. Our calling might be as simple as encouraging someone in our area of ministry that we are already serving in. Our calling might be to re-establish a relationship with someone with whom we have lost contact. Maybe someone that we have wronged that we need to ask for forgiveness or someone that we feel has wronged us, and we need to forgive them. Our calling might be to break free from a hesitancy to visit a sick friend or brother or sister in Christ Jesus that is incapacitated. God could be calling on us to make peace with our relatives, spouse, sibling, or maybe one of our children or grandchildren.

The question is: where are we in the four-stage program of God's calling on our lives? Odds are the calling has already come. Since the calling from God has already come, then the reassurance has been given as well. The odds are also very high that the gentle whisper from God is there as well. That only leaves our objection to the call. When we give up our objections to God's call on our lives, we will experience spiritual growth that will bring comfort and peace to our lives that we have never before experienced.
