Proverbs 8:30-31 Then I was constantly at his side. I was filled with delight day after day, rejoicing always in his presence, rejoicing in his whole world, and delighting in mankind.
Some people make a “bucket list,” which is some things that they want to do before “kicking the bucket.” There are many things on these lists, swim with the dolphins, visit Niagara Falls, learn to play a musical instrument, walk on top of the Great Wall of China, and the lists vary with the person compiling the list. However, even if you do not have a written “bucket list” of things you might want to do in this life, we all have expectations of what we want to accomplish before we die. So, although there is not a compiled list, we might keep these “things to do” as a mental list in our subconscious.
Sometimes we might be watching a documentary of some beautiful, breathtaking scenery in a faraway land and think that it would sure be nice to go there and see this, close up and personal. Then we escape the fantasy world and get back to the world of reality. We start “counting the cost” and realize the cost of the plane tickets to get there, not to mention the cost of the tour guides, we would surely need to find this remote location, among other expenses. Then this one gets relegated to the bottom of the list and maybe even scratched off the list.
But wait, it suddenly occurs that we could wait to see this in the New Creation, the New Earth. We may not have the time or resources to see all of God’s beautiful creations during this life, but we will have plenty of time in eternity. Then it occurs to us that money will not be part of our eternal life with Christ Jesus, and suddenly the time and resources barrier is crumbled.
Paul tells us that we will be liberated from bondage and set to freedom (Romans 8:21). We do not know what the New Earth will be like specifically, but we know that we will not be floating around in the clouds. Instead, there will be a “New heaven and a New Earth” (Revelation 21:1-2). We don’t know if Niagara Falls will be on the New Earth, or if there will be any musical instruments we can play there; we don’t know if there will be Dolphins there we can swim with; however, we do know that we will not be disappointed.
The Psalmist from our Psalm 8 verses 30-31 says we will constantly be at his side. We will be filled with delight day after day, rejoicing always in his presence, rejoicing in his whole world and delighting in mankind. This will be our experience in the “New Heaven and The New Earth,” and we have not yet begun to speak of the centerpiece of the New Creation, the Glory of our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus.
Don’t allow yourself to become intimidated by anyone’s “bucket list.” Instead, release yourself from the things of this world that may be distracting you from your service to Our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus.
