Bible Verse of the Day Thursday December 30th 2021

Colossians 2:9-10  For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority

Colossians was one of Paul's four "prison epistles" while under house arrest in Rome. The Churches in Colossi were experiencing some of the same problems in other books written by Paul, one being false teachers trying to make Christianity a part or sect of Judaism.

For in Christ, all the Deity's fullness lives in bodily form: This speaks of the Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, three, all being one. Some had said that Jesus was not entirely God but sent by God. The fact of the Trinity dispelled any misunderstanding that Jesus had given up His Deity when He became a man; this continued throughout His earthly life and carried on in His resurrected bodily form. As disciples of Christ, we today can participate in this fullness of Christ; we will never have any need that Our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus, will not provide.

Paul was saying that there were no particular emissions of the Glory of God that guided Jesus on His Earthly Ministry, but that he was, and always will be fully and completely and perfectly God. In Christ, God brought us to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority: Paul is reassuring the churches at Colossi and, in turn, all of his readers down through the ages that we have all that we will ever need in Christ. That we are complete in the love of Jesus, and we will never have to seek any other false promises by those guided by Satan. This fullness in Christ that we all have today and down through the years is not something that we have to work to try to realize or attain, but something that comes to us when we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior (Ephesians 2:8-9). John also spoke of this same issue in 1 John 4:1-6.

The confidence we have in Christ Jesus allows His believers and followers the freedom to relate to God. Paul said to the Christians at Colossi that since they had all they needed in God, why would they want to follow after these false teachers. The same is true today; since we have all we need in Christ Jesus, why would we want to be blown away by every wind of doctrine. This truth is for every Christian, no matter their living experience. Christ Jesus is our substitute beginning at the heartbeat of our conversion and lasting for an eternity. Because of the substitutionary work of Christ Jesus on the Cross of Calvary, we stand judicially right before God.

God's assessment and valuation of us is equivalent to his assessment and valuation of Christ. God characterizes and distinguishes faithful followers and believers in Christ with him in every way and everything.
