Romans 1:20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities —his eternal power and divine nature —have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
The qualities of God are invisible since He is a spirit, and we must worship Him in spirit (John 4:24; Acts 17:23). Paul spoke to the Athenians about their statue to the "unknown God." They were accustomed to seeing the gods they worshiped as idols in their Pagan temples. Instead, a God was unknown to them but evidenced by His creation. The endless vast expanse of the universe with the uniformity and consistency of the laws of nature is a clear revelation of God's power and authority over all creation.
Every detail with its smallest and tiniest natural process has been perfectly fashioned and produced for the cycle of life to continue as long as the earth continues (Genesis 8:22; Mark 4:27). If our distance from the life-giving powers of the Sun were different, life as we know it would not exist. We could not stay here if there were no magnetic poles that allowed gravity to keep our feet planted solidly on the ground. The very laws of nature, even though some attempt to explain them apart from God, are clear evidence of the power and existence of God (Psalm 19:1).
The term "without excuse," which our verse of the day says that all people are, would indicate a specific liability, accountability, and responsibility that all people have to God. God is in all creation; therefore, there is no justifiable defense in saying there is no God. Even if someone has never even looked inside the Holy Word of God, there is sufficient evidence in creation itself to verify His existence. Worldly philosophers and scientists have attempted to shut out God, his purposefulness, significance, and value and explain away the effects of nature as occurring on its own. Any impact in nature has to be triggered by a specific cause greater than the effect itself.
Secular philosophers do not want to accept that God created all that we know in this world. This truth would lessen their effect on humanity and dampen their pride immensely. Nevertheless, there has been an untold number of theories about the creation of the world. For example, a Belgian priest named George Lematre first introduced the "big bang" theory in 1927. He argued that the world's creation was from a single prehistoric atom. The "Big Bang" theory makes about as much sense as someone holding a gigantic bundle of logs high up in the air, and when released, they fall into the form of a beautiful log cabin.
