Luke 5:4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”
After
a long night fishing without even a nibble, Jesus instructs His disciples to
sail out into deeper water. There is a valuable bible lesson in this statement
from Jesus. When looking for something we don’t have, we must attempt something
we have never done. This lesson from Jesus is where faith comes into play;
there would naturally be some apprehension when moving into areas we have never
experienced. Simon Peter received another lesson about faith in Christ Jesus in
deep water (Matthew 14:22-33).
God
promised Abraham he would be the father of a great nation and that the promised
Messiah would come from his genealogical line. Abraham and his wife Saran were
far beyond the age of bearing children when God gave them a son, Isaac. When
Isaac was a young lad, God told Abraham to take his young son and sacrifice him
on the mountain. Abraham most likely had some misgivings and a heart-to-heart
conversation with his wife, Sarah. However, Abraham followed God’s instruction
to the letter. God never intended for Isaac to die that day, but what a test of
faith!
God
will test our faith in ways that we might not even imagine. This test of faith
might not be as dramatic as sacrificing one of our children on a mountain.
Instead, it could be something simple that we are doing for God, preparing a
Sunday school lesson, or moving deeper into the mission field of winning souls
to Christ Jesus.
If
we place our faith and trust in God, He will free us from worry and
apprehension of any valley we find ourselves in. Anything that God sends our
way, he has a plan for us already in motion. When we genuinely believe and
place our faith in God, we do not have any rationale for anxiety. We can then
cast all our burdens on our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus focusing our momentum
on doing His will for our lives.
