Bible Verse of the Day Sunday January 9th 2022

Psalm 119:59-60 I have considered my ways and have turned my steps to your statutes. I will hasten and not delay obeying your commands.

To contemplate how we live and direct our lives towards God is what happens just before we surrender ourselves to Christ Jesus, accepting Him as our Lord and Savior. There can be no conversion without surrender, and when the sinner pauses and contemplates their course of life, there is a hope of transformation. After our conversion, we must pause along the way to reflect on the consequences of not staying on our current path.

As we spend more time immersed in God’s Holy Word, we will begin to evaluate our own lives and realize that we need to turn our walk towards our Savior. Some will say, “I need to turn my life around,” but when one turns their life in another direction, we must make the turn towards God. Although there are 360 degrees on the compass, there is only one degree that heads us towards God, as Jesus said: “the path is narrow, and few will find it” (Matthew 7:14).

The time in one’s life that they decide to turn their steps towards God is a significant turning point; it is a change of lifestyle that we cannot imagine before coming to Christ Jesus. All the peace and joy that we search for without Jesus in our lives is a futile pursuit. Once we accept Christ Jesus and turn our steps toward Him, there will be a sense of peace and joy available to us that is everlasting and without boundaries.

Once we have set our steps towards God, we may rapidly move in the direction of obedience to God and His decrees. It is a hazardous and treacherous journey when we have set our steps in a direction away from God, but a glorious and magnificent journey when we are traveling in the Kingdom of God. Haste towards repentance and obedience is an excellent move, but sometimes one will delay when it is time to move away from some sin in our lives quickly. A case in point can be found in the story of Lot when the time came for him to leave Sodom and Gomorrah. The Bible says that Lot “hesitated” when the Heavenly messengers told him to leave that evil city (Genesis 19:16).

Satan will attempt to keep us in our “Sodom and Gomorrah” for as long as he can, knowing the longer we stay there, the deeper our roots of evil will become. Human nature responds to things we love with great excitement; we sometimes delay responding to something with no immediate satisfaction. Responding to God’s corrections indicates our love and honor of our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus. When we delay, it shows that our worldly desires have taken priority over our willingness to follow God. We can find no greater joy found than the joy we know by turning our lives away from the world, with all its fame and fortune, and turning towards Christ Jesus.
