Bible Verse of the Day Wednesday Janurary 12th 2022

Proverbs 23:6-8 Do not eat the food of a begrudging host, do not crave his delicacies; for he is the kind of person who is always thinking about the cost. You will vomit up the little you have eaten and will have wasted your compliments.

The person Solomon had in mind at this writing was the one that is always considering the worldly aspect of every situation. In their hearts, there is always some sense of deceit. In the minds of this worldly individual there looms the thoughts of: “what is in it for me?” In all three of these verses, Solomon is warning against manipulative people that are always plotting and analyzing some clever scheme.

God is teaching us that we should always look at others through their hearts and souls. There will be times that Satan will misdirect our thought pattern. He will cause us to see the evil person as good and see the good person as evil.

In the days that this proverb was written sitting at the table of some ruler could be life-threatening (Proverbs 23:1-3). So is the table of the begrudging host, the one that is out to gain what he or she may gain by deceptive means. The table of the begrudging host will be such an unpleasant experience that the fare that we partake of will always come back to trouble us. However, there is no such endangerment connected with the invitation of the Gospel of Christ Jesus. Our Lord and Savior has prepared a table before us as our enemies look on (Psalm 23:5). The banquet is ready, and the invitations have been sent out. All we have to do is accept the invitation and dine on the heavenly food, the bread of life (John 6:35).

When we tune in to the news of the world, we encounter evil and realize the doctrine of the original sin of Adam and Eve. The sin of our original parents in the Garden was a sin of rebellion, they wanted to know what God knew. The world today seems to think that humanity knows better than God what is good or bad for us. How can we make sure with our hearts and minds what is the good food of the gospel instead of the bad food of the world? Don’t get our theology from the social media of the world. The only way that can be accomplished is a daily diet of God’s Holy Word and prayer. Weekly Bible study classes are a good table to dine at. If your church does not have a regular Bible study class speak to your pastor about starting one.

Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing, and perfect will.

Sadly, many Christians cannot reject the world's opinions. God desires that His children come out from the world and be different (2 Corinthians 6:17). As followers and believers in Christ Jesus, we must remember we live in a hostile world. Some things in the world are legitimate, but many are not. The world places glory on pride, lust, and cruelty; thus, we will always experience a gravitational pull towards the sin of this world

John 15:18-19 If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.

There are only two directions we can travel, either we are being conformed to the ways of the World or to Christ Jesus.
