Bible Verse of the Day Friday February 4th, 2022

Psalm 37:7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways when they carry out their wicked schemes.

To wait on the Lord is sometimes very difficult in our rushed lifestyle. When I was in boot camp in the Navy, a regulation stated that unless you were in a group of at least nine (9) people, eight marching, and one calling cadence, you must be running, double-timing the Navy called it. Usually, when you got to where you were going, there was a line to wait before accomplishing whatever you came to do. Consequently, there was an idea that you would hurry up and wait. This concept is what so many today are doing, in a hurry for every aspect of life. Nobody likes to wait on someone else, drive on an interstate highway and watch everyone trying to get ahead of everyone else.

We do not relish the thought of waiting or being still, yet these are the attributes and characteristics we must possess if we ever expect to walk in the ways of God. Waiting on the Lord is not a call to inactivity; it is a call to trust and faith. To be still before the Lord or wait on Him should be the goal of all gracious followers and believers in Christ Jesus. Time is of no relevance to God, and by placing our faith and trust that God will provide for our every need, we are saying that in the sight of the Lord, time holds no relevance for us.

Belinda Lee Smith wrote a song recorded by Gold City entitled “In Time, On Time, Every time.” It tells how God was in time and on time for the Children of Israel to cross the parted Red Sea. It reveals how God was in time and on time for young David with a single slingshot to bring down a giant of a man called Goliath. The song also tells of how God was in time and on time when the walls of Jericho fell. God was in time and on time for those million, and He will be in time and on time for you and me. Life will become sweeter when we learn how to be still before the Lord, putting our faith and trust in the truth that God is in control and that everything will be in His time, will, and way.

This verse ends with a reminder for God’s Children not to envy those that succeed in amassing fortunes by ill-gotten gains or ways of evil. As saved, born again, washed in the Blood of Christ Jesus followers and believers of Him, we have something that is far better than all the gold, silver, fame, and fortune that the world has or will ever know. We have the peace in God that surpasses the imagination of those of this world. God knows our days, and no work that we do for Christ Jesus will go unrewarded.

We live our time on this earth in seconds, minutes, hours, days, and years, but heavenly time does not have any restrictions on any element of time; it is never-ending, everlasting. Therefore, trying to rush and get ahead of the Lord will result in walking without Him. Consequently, when we rest on the solid Rock of Ages, we will never have a cause to rush around in a panic because our Lord and Savior is walking with us, and He is in no hurry.
