Bible Verse of the Day Saturday February 5th 2022

1 Thessalonians 5:18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

In Exodus, we see where the entire community of Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron, the two leaders God had selected to lead the Children of Israel to the Promised land (Exodus 16:2). Today there are many grumblers among Christians, the very ones that God has promised never to leave or forsake. Everything that comes to us in this life comes by and through God. Whether we view it as good or bad, every circumstance comes because it is God's will for our lives. Some might wonder: How can I give thanks for a tribulation that has befallen me? Paul reminds us in another one of his letters, this one to the Ephesians, that we should always be thankful for all things (Ephesians 5:20). Even the things in life that we view as harmful occurrences are the will of God for our lives at that very moment. These tribulations come to us for the intended purpose of helping us learn more about Jesus. Every time we overcome a tribulation through our faith in Christ Jesus, we grow more spiritually mature than we were up to that point. Armed with this knowledge, how can we not praise God in all situations we face in this life.

If we were void of any trials or tribulations, we would not need faith, critical in our Christian growth. If we knew that our seas would always be calm and we would have smooth pathways it would cause us to get independent and see no need to call on Christ Jesus, placing our faith and trust in Him. This smooth sailing would also retard our growth and impede our spiritual development. Everything that comes in our lives gets there through and by the will of God; if that were not the way, then God would prevent any adversity from coming our way. God has a way of mixing the bitter and the sweet and the bad and good times to the perfect levels so that they all might work in our lives for our benefit and, more importantly, for God's glory (2 Corinthians 4:15).

There is no alternative for the discernment of God's will on our lives apart from our faith in our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus. Nothing will happen to us that God does not sanction; God's hand is in every millisecond of our existence. Thus, we can give thanks in all circumstances, even on the bumpiest roads and the roughest seas. Our role in all of this is simple, belief in what the truth of God's Word is teaching us. We will find examples of God's restorative care of all people throughout the scriptures.
