Bible Verse of the Day Saturday 26th 2022

1 Peter 2:2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

The word "like" that begins this scripture verse expresses an analogy between physical and spiritual growth. The question before us this day is: Has my daily Bible Study become a duty instead of a heartfelt desire. Peter tells us to "crave" God's spiritual milk. The Word crave indicates to long for or eagerly seek after the treasure God has for us in His Holy Word. Mothers know that their baby needs to nurse several times a day; in the same manner, we need to feed on the spiritual milk of God's Word several times a day as well.

We can do a few things to enhance our daily bible study. First, pray and ask God to assemble with us in reading His Word. Our objective is to build a personal relationship with God, not just log in Bible reading time (Matthew 4:17). Go into the Word of God with the expectation to be moved by Christ Jesus, convicted by some sin that entangles us. Then be open and ready to allow God to change the dangerous course we are on.

Secondly, we must enter the hallowed hall of God's Word with a repentant heart. Our objective in our bible study should be transformation, not gaining information. Being unaffected by our Bible Study is worse than no Bible study at all. (John 15:3).

Lastly, we should meditate on a brief passage that God might have for us. It is more important to hear what God has for us than how many verses or chapters we might read. God does not have some chart on us that He marks how many chapters we read daily. Our object is not to get through the Word of God but to allow that Word of God to get through to us.

Physical Food is the life-giving substance that sustains our bodies. God's Word is the spiritual Food that allows us to mature in our Christian Walk. If we do not intake the Spiritual milk of the Word daily, our spiritual health will go downhill. Going after worldly or false teachings is dangerous because they overflow with impurities. This verse tells us to crave the "pure" spiritual Milk; God's Holy Word has no impurities; the Bible is pure and untainted. The Bible discloses our sins to us and brings to light our motives. More importantly, it keeps us mindful of God's presence in our lives.
