Colossians 3:13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
In
some stores, you might find a particular section marked "sold as is" or
"irregular merchandise." There is some issue with the product that has caused
the merchant to mark down the price. It could be a stain that can't be removed
or a missing part that we would have to replace. In some cases, we do not know
where the flaw is; you have to search for it yourself. Once you have purchased
the defective item, there are no refunds or exchanges.
In
some respects, we are living in that store. Think about our friends and
neighbors, are not some of them a bit irregular. There is some flaw here, some
deception there; maybe someone close to us has a problem with their temper. If
we search for perfection, we have wandered into the wrong store. There is only
one way to have a successful relationship with someone, accept them for who
they are.
Don't
buy into the misconception that most people are normal, whatever normal is,
except our friends and loved ones. If we believe that deception, our
relationship with our friends and loved ones becomes a pursuit to repair the
people in our lives. True Christian Love allows those we love to be themselves
and accept them as such. The example of love that we glean from Christ Jesus is
accepting the flaws in the lives of those we love.
If
Christ Jesus only received us if we were flawless, none of us would know
salvation by His precious blood and be heaven-bound.
In
our verse of the Day, Paul tells us to "bear with each other and accept each
other's faults." This verse ends with a directive from God written through the
Apostle Paul. He reminds us that Christ Jesus has forgiven us even though not
one of us is faultless. If we would only heed the advice, "forgive others as
Christ has forgiven us," it would bring a peace to our lives that we could
never even comprehend beforehand. (Philippians 4:7).
