Psalms 118:5 When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord; He brought me into a spacious place
The things that we will enjoy
today are just what we invested in yesterday. If we want our tomorrow to be
different from yesterday, we must change what we are doing today. We all have a
comfort zone where we base most of our daily decisions. Some people do not feel
comfortable unless they are wearing some brand-name clothing. I would not know
the difference between an Armani suit, and one purchased from my local suite
shop. Some of us get intimidated out in a high-dollar restaurant, while others
would not be uncomfortable sharing noon tea with the Queen of England.
If we expect to accomplish
anything worthwhile, we will have to expand our comfort zone. It takes courage
that only comes from Christ Jesus to make changes in our lives for the better.
If we want to get the ripest fruit, we will have to climb out on the limb. Take
the turtle, for example; he would not be able to move an inch forward unless he
sticks his neck out.
David said when he found
himself beleaguered, under attack and the walls seemed like they were closing
in on him, God brought him into a spacious place. David did nothing but call
out to the Lord. Faith in God trusts that He will lead, guide, and direct our
every step. If David had called out to the Lord and then attempted to find his
‘spacious place” on His own, the walls would have likely closed in on David.
Trusting in God that He knows
what is best for us is the best way to expand our comfort zone. Allowing Christ
Jesus to have his will and way in our lives will bring us to a comfort zone
that the world cannot comprehend. This is not to say that we should sit back on
our laurels and do nothing. This is to say that we can do all things through
Christ Jesus that gives us strength (Philippians 4:13).
