John 15:16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.
In this passage of scripture, Jesus is speaking to His disciples about their calling to follow Him. He makes it unmistakable that he chose them because of His love and His sovereign choice. They were not selected to follow Jesus because of anything they had done in the past or any merits. Since God chooses people to become His followers of all times, there will be a bearing of fruit from those called. It has been said that when someone is on fire for Jesus if Jesus has lit the fire, it will not go out; however, if the follower of Christ illuminates the fire, it will eventually diminish. Therefore, it is crucial that whatever we do for Christ Jesus, there must be a clear calling from Him for the calling to be successful. We have the Bible, a special revelation from God, His written Word, regarding Himself and His plan of redemption. Through the Holy Word of God and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit that lives within all followers of Christ Jesus, we can grow in God's kingdom, work, and become more effective, bearing fruit. The Holy Spirit will enlighten and deepen our understanding of the Bible as we make Bible Study and Prayer a part of our everyday lives. This is through our salvation because of our faith in the true promised Messiah. With this comes a more meaningful understanding of Christ Jesus and what our relationship with him means to us.
Jesus told His followers that all of the scriptures they had studied their entire life testify about Him (John 5:39). If you were to apply a bottom line to the Bible, you might say that it would be God's plan for the redemption of humankind and our salvation. From the first to the last word in the Bible, it is about Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior, and God's redemptive plan for all humankind.
As followers of Jesus and co-heirs with Him in the kingdom of God, this means we are called to spread the "Good News" of salvation in His name. As children of God, as we are adopted into God's family, there is no greater responsibility, no greater calling, than to preach the Gospel of Christ Jesus to those who are lost in a dark and dying world. When we actively seek Christ Jesus and follow Him through the leading, guiding, and direction of the Holy Spirit, we will align our wills with God's Will, forgetting about our wants and desires for our lives. We have been bought and paid for by what Jesus did on the Cross of Calvary for us, and our lives do not belong to us; they belong to our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus (1 Corinthians 6:20; 7:23; Galatians 3:13-15). When we fully understand and comprehend this and surrender ourselves to Christ Jesus, His power will work through us, and we will bear good fruit, which will bring others to faith in Christ Jesus. In conjunction with our Love for Christ Jesus, God's Holy Word is displayed through our actions and treatment of others. As well as giving evidence of our faith to those who are lost in a world at enmity with God.
