1 Corinthians 15:17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.
Here
was the incredible proof of the flawlessness and acknowledgment of His penance.
The offering penance work of Jesus was in itself great and complete. It was all
God requested, all the Church required, and all that regulation and equity
inquired. However, there needed one proof that God acknowledged this work and
was agreeable to divine equity. He had expressed that wondrous cry on the
cross, which sent energy through all paradise and consternation through all
damnation "It is done." But, lo, He gives up His life! The captain of
our salvation is conquered! The guaranteed Victor is vanquished! They place Him
in the grave! The stone covers Him! The earth detains Him! What evidence have
we now that He was more than human? What proof that He was God? What heavenly
seal has God given to the incredible sanction of recovery? What promise have we
that it is finished? What protection from the law's thunder and the consuming
blazes of God’s wrath do we have? What protection against the fury of an
outraged God and the judgment to come? In a word, how may we realize that every
one of the divine excellencies blended in our salvation and that "whoever
has faith in Jesus will not die, yet have never-ending life"?
We
witnessed the Father raise Him from the dead! This miracle is the proof, this
is the seal, this is the promise, and this is the security. We don't need to
ask anymore. It fulfilled God; it fulfilled us. At that point, all creation on
earth was called upon to witness the great and immense finishing, decisive seal
on the final acts of the redemption of humankind. All humanity focused on the
empty tomb and His grave clothes left behind. The Father, in that stunning
demonstration of His power and love, expresses His glorious voice. A
declaration from heaven announced: This is my Son in whom I am well pleased
(Matthew 3:17).
