1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so, we will be with the Lord forever.
What have we done that is eternal? Most everything we have breaks apart or runs down long before we are ready. But three things in our lives last forever: Our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus, our Christian brothers and sisters, and our praise of God, these are eternal. There is coming a day from God, a great day that mere words cannot describe. So let us all join the Angels in symbolically standing on our tiptoes, looking over the clouds to see the Son of God, who gave His life so that we could have eternal life, returning in all of His Glory. When Christ Jesus returns, He will come in all of His glory and receive the welcome and honor that he deserves.
We praise Him for that glorious day as His children, even though we can only see it today through our faith and trust in Him. Until that glorious day that we see Him, our hearts and souls should be surrendered to Him with a deep, sincere desire to serve Him. Unfortunately, there will be times in our walks with Jesus that our weakness will overshadow our desires to continue serving Him. This misconception will come from Satan, who knows full well that if we get excited about our salvation, our natural reaction will be to share it with those around us that do not have a personal relationship with Christ Jesus. That is the one thing Satan hates the worse because he knows his eternal fate is doomed and he wants to take as many as he possibly can with him to his eternal fiery destination.
Truly surrendered Christians live in constant anticipation of the return of our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus. He could come today; He could come tomorrow; however, it will be a glorious day when He does come. Therefore, we should ask ourselves this most critical question regularly: Are we living in anticipation of the return of Christ Jesus?
