1 Corinthians 13:4-7 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
I was sitting at my desk this
morning looking for the best bible verse of the day for Mother’s Day. I was led
to 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 because this verse of scripture describes a mother’s
love. It does not matter how far off the path of Christ Jesus her children wander;
her prayers are still the same.
I ran across a story from
Pastor Troy Mason, Pastor of Cherry Point Baptist Church in Havelock, North Carolina.
Thank Pastor Troy for sharing this story.
“Four preachers were discussing
the merits of the various translations of the Bible. One liked the King James
Version best because of its simple, beautiful English. Another liked the
American Revised Version best because it was closer to the original Hebrew and
Greek. Still another liked a contemporary version because of its up-to-date
vocabulary. The fourth minister was silent for a moment, then said, “I like my
mother’s translation best.” Surprised, the other three men said they didn’t
know his mother had translated the Bible. “Yes,” he replied. “She translated it
into life, and it was the most convincing translation I ever saw.”
Mother’s Day is a day filled
with joy, but it may be a tough day for some. Our mothers are home with the
Lord for some of us. We carry beautiful memories of our moms and long for her
sweet voice and presence. Some Sisters are childless and may feel a sense of
emptiness. Some may not have had a great relationship with their moms and feel
guilty. Some may have rebellious children who continue to reject your prayers
and guidance. If this is the case, you might be feeling like a failure today,
or maybe you have disappointed God.
There is good news for moms
and all parents alike. God’s Word talks about imperfect families and how we can
assist them, But the Bible also speaks concerning the eternal family. One day
we will be home with our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus. The day is coming that
we will all be with the eternal Royal family of God in a place God has prepared
for His children. In the interim, we should strive to make our families the
very best they can be for the honor and glory of God.
Happy Mother’s Day.
