Acts 5:29-30 Peter and the other apostles replied: “We must obey God rather than human beings! The God of our ancestors raised Jesus from the dead—whom you killed by hanging him on a cross.
The Jewish
leaders arrested Peter and John for preaching about Christ Jesus and placed
them in a public jail. However, in the middle of the night, an angel released
them from the locked jail cell. The angel instructed them to go and preach the
Gospel in the Temple Courts. When the leaders of the Jews realized the Apostles
were preaching inside the Temple walls, they brought them in front of the
Sanhedrin. The Jewish leaders asked Peter and John why they preached about
Jesus when they were ordered not to preach Christ Jesus to the people. The
apostles said that their obedience belonged to God, not any Humans.
Peter
is clearly stating that his faith in Christ Jesus didn't just start with Jesus.
Peter established his faith through the Patriarchs, the distinguished Jewish
fathers. The God who sanctified them also resurrected Jesus from the dead. God
performed this miracle even though the Romans executed Jesus in the most
scandalous and demeaning way possible for a devoted Jewish man. The gentiles
nailed Jesus to a Cross, a punishment designated for the lowest of criminals.
The crucifixion was illegal and a sign of being cursed according to the Law of
Moses (Galatians 3:13).
Satan
was at the core of the situation because the Jewish leaders were influenced by
his evil. Satan had exhausted all of his options, and nothing he could do would
stop the Crucifixion and the Resurrection of Christ Jesus. Once this great
miracle occurred, Satan's fate was sealed, an eternity separated from God. The
only option Satan had left was to attempt to sway the Jewish leaders and stop
the followers of Jesus. However, the Christian movement had gained momentum
that even Satan could not deter or stop. The Gospel of Christ Jesus is preached
in every land today, and Satan still unsuccessfully tries to block it in any
way he can.
We,
as born again, washed in the blood of Jesus, saved believers were left on this
earth one heartbeat after we were saved for one reason. We are to follow the
Apostles' example that day in the Temple Square. No matter how much resistance
we might encounter, we are to continue spreading the Word of God to a dark,
lost, and dying world. As Christians, there will not be a day in our lives that
we do not come in contact with someone in need of the saving powers of Christ
Jesus. When God places someone in our path that needs Jesus, let us not fail to
respond to God's calling.
