John 1:41-42a The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ). And he brought him to Jesus.
When Andrew met Jesus, he was
assured that Jesus was the true, long-awaited promised Messiah. Andrew always
seems to be bringing someone to Jesus. Andrew was the one that brought the boy
with five loaves of bread and two small fish to Jesus when He fed the five
thousand people on the mountainside. Some Greek people wanted to see Jesus at
the triumphal entry, it was Philip they approached, but he contacted Andrew
(John 12:22). How many of us would like to have people say about ourselves,
"they are always leading someone to Jesus.
In the world, Throughout the
ages, This is how most people come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
Someone has a brother or sister, or other friend or family member who knows
Jesus, who leads and introduces them to the world's Savior. This is a natural
occurrence because it is natural for a Christian to want to share with the
world their relationship with Jesus.
This verse of scripture says
that Andrew's first thing was to introduce his brother Peter to Jesus. This
could imply that because the bible says, "the first thing," there
would be more people that Andrew told about Jesus. Andrew first shared
Jesus with those closest to him, his brother Peter. This is an excellent
example for us to follow and start witnessing with those closest to us.
When we share our faith with
another person, we are also sharing our faith with ourselves, which will remind
us of the wonderful things God does for us daily. Churches that do not have a
soul-winning program will wither and die on the vine one day. The church's
mission is to share the good news of the Gospel with those that do not know
Christ as their Savior. We have a command from Jesus to make disciples of those
around us (Matthew 18:19-20; Acts 1:8). However, the most crucial factor in
sharing our faith is that it pleases God (1 Samuel 15:22, Heb 13:21). It is a
desire of the heart of God that people come to a knowledge of Christ Jesus, and
when they do, heaven throws a grand party (Luke 15).
Always keep in mind the next
time the opportunity to share your faith with someone avails itself, the
benefits far outweigh the costs.
