Acts 5:32 We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.”
God bestows many wonderful spiritual gifts upon us, but the most
precious is the gift of the indwelling of His Holy Spirit. This gift assures us
that our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus, is leading our way with every step we
take. The fact that God has filled us with His Holy Spirit means that we are a
temple of God (1 Corinthians 6:19). When we pray to the Lord, the Holy Spirit
intercedes for us to the Father. So likewise, the Holy Spirit intercedes for us
when the pull of the evil Spirit of Satan begins its tug of war (Romans
8:13-14).
The Spirit gives us
strength in our inner being (Ephesians 3:16). In other words, the
Spirit is at work to transform us into the character of Christ. So, let's thank
God for his holy presence in us through the Holy Spirit.
The apostles saw
themselves not only as heralds of the Gospel of Christ Jesus but as
eyewitnesses of what occurred in the Life of Jesus. So likewise, Jesus' first
followers saw themselves as direct witnesses with the Holy Spirit of the
teachings of Christ Jesus. They seem to themselves as human voices of the Holy
Spirit that Christ promised He would send at His ascension.
The Apostles announced the
fulfillment of the promise of the Holy Spirit from the Old Testament that Jesus
was the true promised Messiah, God in the flesh. Furthermore, God had and would
continue to bestow the gift of the Holy Spirit on all that would accept Christ
Jesus as their Lord and Savior. All humanity that places their faith and trust
in the substitutionary work of Jesus on the Cross will know eternal life.
There were some then as
well as now that still think there is some way to work our way to Heaven.
Sadly, many believe there is some cosmic scale on which God weighs our sins.
Then if the good outweighs the bad, God will open the gates and let us in. This
heresy is a false belief, and the ones putting this forward, along with all
that follow them, will one day be saddened to realize that Satan has told them
a lie.
Salvation is in Christ Jesus and Him alone. None of us can ever
live a life that would get us into God's eternal Heaven. There has only been
one that lived such a life. His name is Jesus. He lived a perfect life and then
sacrificed Himself on the Cross. All we have to do is admit that we are all
sinners (Romans 3:23), and none of us have any righteousness on our own (Romans
3:10). Once we reach out and ask Jesus to come into our lives as our Lord and
Savior, He will not hesitate. God will accept Jesus' sacrifice on our behalf,
and we will know eternal life (Romans 10:9).
